Information Minister Advocates for Radio's Endurance Amidst Digital Shift

Phnom Penh: Mr. Neth Pheaktra, the Minister of Information, has reiterated the enduring significance of radio as a traditional medium of communication, underscoring its pivotal role in disseminating information to people across all walks of life. In the evolving landscape of media consumption, he asserts, radio's relevance remains undiminished.

During a session with students on World Radio Day 2024, held on the afternoon of February 16, 2024, at the Ministry of Information, Mr. Pheaktra delved into the history of radio broadcasting globally and within Cambodia. He also highlighted the intrinsic values of journalism, enriching students' understanding of the medium.

Mr. Pheaktra delineated the media sector into two main categories: traditional media, including radio, and modern or digital media, which encompasses social media applications accessible via smartphones. Despite the global and national surge in digital media usage, he emphasized the irreplaceable nature of traditional media formats.

World Radio Day, he noted, was inaugurated to heighten public awareness about the integral role of radio in everyday life. It also serves as a catalyst for fostering cooperation and sharing experiences among radio operators. This collaborative spirit is aimed at advancing and modernizing radio stations to cater to public demands and adapt to the rapid evolution of digital technology.
